Depending on what version of Autocad you are using you can use a field to display the file and pathname.

If not you could use the plot stamp utility but I would go with Steve's suggestion

If you want more of a path/time/date/who printed it type of a stamp, the plot stamp is the way to go. You can active this in the plot dialog box. If you want something that will show the path on the plot in paper space as part of the drawing, I'd use either a field or a diesel string. You can simply place this in your title block and what ever drawing you reference the diesel string into, the string will display the path of the child drawing (not the parent ie title block). You can find great info on both diesel strings and plot stamps via the F1 key and the Acad help file.
Ps, welcome to Augi!

I'd use either a field or a diesel string.
Can we directly apply diesel string inside a drawing without using RTEXT?

acad 2004, how do i use the"plot stamp utility "Use the PLOTSTAMP command (also accessable from the plot dialogue box), it should be self explanatory but look in the Autocad help files for further info if required.

I recommend using fields period. you dont have to remember to turn it on and off, it is permanently affixed to the titleblock, However, if you dont have a titleblock, you could just have the text set up as a block to drop in your drawing, it will automatically update. The problem with the plot stamp is, it shows up in the same place on every drawing, whether it is 24x36 or 8x11, obviously on the 8x11 it is in the way of the graphics behind it.

acad 2004, how do i use the"plot stamp utility "Also in the plot dialogue there is a check box for plotstamp, and once checked you can create/edit your stamp. Errrr nevermind Steve mentioned that.

Personally I would only use the plot stamp if you are using an older version of Acad which doesn't have fields.

Can we directly apply diesel string inside a drawing without using RTEXT?Nope. You can have it as an x-ref, but that's about as close as you can get to not having rtext in the drawing.

I agree. Furthermore, I would put an MTEXT string full of fields right in the templates, NOT the titleblock, because they would not update if they are part of a block. The nuce thing about mtext is you can make a nice long box and use the justifiction towards the fixed edge. Some plotstamp filepaths can get pretty long so you need lots of running room.

Hi
Additionally, if you have not already, give the forum search (http://forums.augi.com/search.php?) facility a try (hint, maybe limit your search to the AutoCAD Support (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=177) forums)...
Key Word(s): Plot + Stamp
PlotStamp
Have a good one, Mike

That is not true, at least not in AutoCAD 2007, we have our plot stamp as part of our titleblock as well as several other pieces of information for our titleblock that are made of custom fields and they update perfectly fine. I think that when I was messing with fields in 05 I experienced the problem you are describing, lucky for us we are on subscription now.
