View Full Version : Annotation scale?

I have a question about how annotation scales. Room tags for instance. I am working on a metric floorplan that will have to be printed to scale on both 24x36 and 11x17 papers. The room tag looks ok at 1:100 scale on the 24x36, but when I go to 1:200 scale for the 11x17, it becomes way too big. Shouldn't it properly scale to the plan units? or is it, but I just don't like it? And either way, what do I need to do to rectify this situation? Make seperate tags?

Thanks

Yes, you'll need to make separate tags that work for different scales if you're not happy with the current display. There is no other way of scaling them, since they are meant to be a certain "height" on paper regardless of the scale of the drawing.

I was afraid this was the case. Seems like there would be a way to override this as it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have to have multiple tags for differing scales.

Thanks though.

How are you planning to do your printing? Are you making separate views one with 1:100 scale and another 1:200 scale? Or you just changing the scale of the same view? Are you planning to use separate title-blocks for printing differently scaled views?

The most economical way to do things would be to do everything in 1:100 scale and place it onto sheet with a title-block designed for printing with 100% on 24x36 paper. Then in order to print on 11x17 just use the same sheets but print centered with 50% zoom. This way everything will come up at half size. Depending on your needs this method may or may not be satisfactory. However keep in mind that in order for it to work you may need to (a) add a note of zoom factor to the title block so reader knows if sheets printed at 50% and (b) have sufficient margin in title-block so everything visible fits on 11x17 at half size.

Yeah, I think what they decided is to keep everything on the 24x36 and if need be, just print a half size set of the sheets. The fact that half of a 24x36 doesn't fit on an 11x17 is a bummer, but we have the ability to print the 12x18 sheets on our KIP.

Thanks for the help guys. Now if I could just find someone who could tell me how to add an editable text item to my keynote tag, I'd be stylin'!

You could use a PDF printer as a middle step. Print everything at 22x34 100% on a PDF file. Then open the PDF file and print that out at 50% on 11x17.
