I cannot exit the DDEDIT command once I select any Single Line Text when I try in-place editing. With DTEXTED set to “1,” no problem, however I want in-place editing. When I try in-place editing, I can highlight text and type revisions, but I can’t exit the command. I’ve tried the ENTER (as should work, I read), the ESC key and all CTRL ALT combinations I can think of. My only way out is to ask the Task Manager to shut down AutoCAD which obviously has its drawbacks.
I find I also have to ask the Task Manager to shut down AutoCAD when I use MLEDIT. I simply double click on a multiline and I’m stuck. I can open the HELP menu, but that’s about it.
What’s going on?
Does CTRL + ENTER exit out of the DDEDIT?

No, CTRL + ENTER does nothing.
No, CTRL + ENTER does nothing.
And it won't exit if you click outside of the edit box?
This is the first I have seen of a problem like this, and searches here and at Autodesk didn't turn up anything. It may be beneficial to do a repair on the install.

Clicking outside the box doesn't help because AutoCAD seems to be locked up within the command. Could it possibly be caused by also having ADT2006 installed on the same machine?

When I first went to ADT2007, I left 2006 installed "just in case". I never had that happen to me, so I don't think that the problem. I do network installs, though. I would try what tim recommended, and do a repair.

At a quick test, do a quick ctrl+alt+del to get the task manager up before you try the ddedit. Check to see if it's still trying to process. We've had Acad get stuck in a loop, before but it wasn't due to one specific command. I'm also guessing that this happens in any drawing, not just one project or one file, but any new drawing you start.
If you can constantly replicate the problem, it may be a good question for Adesk to answer (or at least be contacted about). And this only happens in Acad, not ADT? Are you running any other 3rd party apps over the top? ADT can cause some wierd things to happen when it has to deal with other 3rd parties. Just some thoughts.

I don't have a solution but I had a similar problem. I set one of my mouse buttons to perform a double click. It works great for getting in & out of viewports, but when I tried it on text I got stuck in the editor and could not get out. I found that the task manager allowed me to quit the current command without having to completely close out AutoCAD. My only solution was to manually double click on text to edit.

I can replicate the problem 100% of the times I try.
The Task Manager tells me AutoCAD is running, but when I select "end the program" it then tells me AutoCAD is not responding. This is vanilla 2007 only and it happens with all drawings, new or old. The only 3rd party stuff I run on top of AutoCAD are LLPSITE and the old AEC routines with the OASEC menu, of course both converted to CUI by the Transfer tab in AutoCAD.

This has happened to me multiple times in the past few weeks, I have finally found that using the mouse and going to the command/text window and increasing it (stretching) then it picking at the current point of the comman line get me unstuck.

Did you ever get a clear answer? because this is also happening to me and I've tried all the suggestions but none work.

Here's what I did, moments before I gave up. Right click on the session in the taskbar, click restore. Worked for me.

This just happened to me for the first time in Civil 3D 2008. Nothing would work, but sure enough, right click on the session in taskbar and select restore worked for me also.
Thanks,
Hugh
