View Full Version : Automatically transfer Layout Layer State to Modelspace

We are using AutoCAD 2007, version A.54.0.
We have layer state set up for our different tabs for our civil drawings. The problem is that when we go to a tab and then switch back to model space the last layer state that we used is not transferring over to model space, i.e. different layers are on and w/ different line types then what the last layer state was used.
What do I need to do to correct this or is it possible?
I have looked through the forums and did see one person ask about the same thing back in November but no one gave them a answer.....
If I can not find a answer to this there will be some upset engineers in our office that do not have the extensive CAD experience that only work in model space......
Any help with this issue would be gratefully appreciated!

as far as I know, AutoCAD 2007 does not have the ability to store layer states per layout tab, but I could be wrong. I know this is a feature that they added in 2008. are you sure you dont have some third party app running. One of the ones I hate is LOSWITCH.DVB

Yes, we are using loswitch.dvb, which means we are saving layer states under the names of the tabs so they switch when we change tabs. The problem is when we switch tabs and then go to model space in AutoCAD 2007 the layer state is not transfered to the model space from the last tab that we were using.
In AutoCAD 2002, using the loswitch.dvb, the last layer state that we used would also set the layers in the model space and not just in the tab. This would allow the engineer to work in model space and see all of the relevant information for what he is working on and not just a small area in a viewport.

Also known as vpmax. Or the icon next to paper on the bottom toolbar.

Sorry marklabell, this idea will not fly......
The engineers/desginers do not want to be tied into just using the paper space, they need to find information in model space that they need.......without all of the layers on that that sheet does not need....(points layers, surveying topo information layers, sewer information, utility information, etc., etc.) They want to work in model space with only the layers they need on and w/ our companies CAD standards active for layer type/color that is associated to the layer state that our company has set up.....
I do realize that vpmax and vpmin will max out the viewport so you can do this but we really need to tie the layer state back to the model space.......

Ok, I am starting to feel really dumb!!!!!
I found out what the problem was!!!!!!!!
When I would use the layoff command inside a view port I did not see the settings that would allow the use of layoff to freeze the layer in the current view port and not just turn off the layer like it had in the past.....by switching the setting to off it will now turn off the layer in the model and not just freeze it in the current view port.....
After working with AutoCAD for 20+ years I can not believe I missed this one.......it has taken me the better part of the afternoon to get this figured out!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who tried to help me with this and the ones who were trying!!!!!
