Not sure if this is for this forum or not, but suddenly all my Revit files do now show the Revit icon next to them when I view the files in Windows Explorer. If I look at the file's properties, it says it opens with Revit and shows the icon there, but not when looking at just the file name itself. It's just showing the standard Windows file icon next to it. Any ideas?

This is probably a windows problem. Windows has lost the resources to the icon files. This used to happen all the time in NT4 and W2K. There was a power toy that would bebuild all the icon resources. To manually do this try the file types tab under folder settings. You should be able to set the proper icon for each file type.

Go to folder options and re-associate .rvt files with Revit.exe
Does the same happened with fa and rft to ? If so did you just uninstalled ?

yes all Revit files, families, and templates have done this. I haven't changed anything with the program recently, other than un-installing my demo of Revit Structure after it expired.

Well when I go to File Types and click on the various Revit file types, it shows the Revit icon when I click the Advanced button. However I don't know what file contains the Revit program icons to try to point it back to there. It should be some .dll file I think?

Does everyone have purple icons next to their Revit files in Windows Explorer? I think mine used to be blue but I guess that may have been an old icon or something.

Download TweakUI and use the 'repair icons' function.

Nope, TweakUI didn't work.

Got it fixed, for some reason the Revit icon files (all 4 different types) had lost their .ico file type extensions.
