View Full Version : Dynamic polygon Block with Attribute for area value

I have created a number of dB's that contain stretchable Polylines and added an attribute to display the area of the polygon after it has been inserted into a drawing. The db and attribute works fine until I insert another of the blocks then the attribute stops calculating. Am I out of luck because the object (polygon) name is already used or is there some way to work around this. I hope I'm making sense. What I want to be able to do is extract the area of different parts of a drawing by using db's

I can almost guarantee that this issue will stem from the fact that the attribute in both blocks is named the same thing. i.e.: area.
if you want to be able to insert both blocks in there then my early guess would be to change the attribute names to be unique.
Thinks again ......
..... hm ..... whatever. worth a shot.

I have used the same name in attributes where I manually enter information into an attribute without any problem. Is it because I am using a field as part of an equation in the attribute? I have attached a couple of examples. The corners of the polygons are dynamic along with several other aspects of the blocks. Me thinks it might be in the programing of the field.

yeah that's why i paused. I kind of figured that it might not be that cuz attributes only HAVE to be unique when in the same block ..... lemme see here ....

also, when submitting problem blocks, submit them in a drawing that YOU are working in. that way we can see if it's a setting in your drawing template that needs tweaking. most other times it's ok to just post the DB files alone....

When one of these blocks are inserted multiple times into a drawing the fields in the subsequent blocks do not recognize the polygon as a valid object. The first time the block works as designed. I have attached a drawing showing what I am talking about.
PS sorry for the delay in responding but I have been out of town and just now getting back to my computer.

Charlie,
your block seems to work fine for me. Try it again. Use the insert command and see what you come out with. That's what I did and everything works fine for me. I attached the same drawing to show you ....

I was trying to pull it off a palette which does not work but as you have shown me it works fine from the insert command. Thank you for the insight.

again, why don't you attach the actuall problem file with all the instances as you are experiencing your problem? maybe it's not the block, but your environment....

The drawing I attached my last post had the problem I was experiencing in it. The blocks have been modified since the tool palette was created. How can I relate my environment to you?

I am using a dual monitor with the tool palettes and toolbars on the second screen. Attached are screen shots of the properties of one of the blocks, a screen shot of the block and a screen shot of the tool palette.

HI CHRIS.
FOR YOU.BYEok.... why do i need to know about "burst" command, and why are the DB's in question exploded in the drawing you attached in the reply to me?
i would just like a little more explanation as to why you posted these responses and attachments, that's all.
Thanks!!
