View Full Version : Openings in a stacked wall
I recently created a stacked wall. I added an opening to the stacked wall cutting over both parts of the wall. This works fine. When I copy the opening, to the left or right, the new opening suddenly only cuts the top part of the stacked wall.
Has anyone experienced this as well?

I tried this using Edit Profile with rectangular lines inside the walls four profile edges. Finish Sketch, it's okay.
Edit Profile again and copy 'cutout' two times, one moved upward. Finish Sketch and it's okay.
I can't replicate your issue.

Another work-around that requires careful planning so you do not make a mess of the schedules (and can filter these non-door "doors") is to create openings as doors or windows. Add reference planes and instance or type parameters and then edit the opening only to get shapes you want. No actual door or frame or casing, just the opening. This will cut both walls since a "door" knows what it is supposed to do.
We have found a number of problems with profiles and openings both (including constraints) so I created a whole series of openings for walls with lots of shapes the flex with both instance and type parameters. We used a generic wall-hosted family and created these with voids. As a result, this does not conflict with window and door schedules. This saved us a bunch of time globally. Attached are a couple of examples with various parameters so you can deconstruct my methods if you see this as valuable in your firm. Our users love this - way better than profiles and the OOTB opening tool. But this does not solve your immediate problem
Thank you I will have a look at you files.
next after the opening I had some issues with the curtain walls. If I create them By line I can't seem to move the curtain wall perpendicular to it's plane. I then created a mass and put the curtain wall on the face of a mass. While this works quite well I found this a bit cumbersome. Any thoughts on this?
I tried you openings and the idea is good! It works except I have to make a small adjustment to it.
1. metric...... :)
2. I can't let the void be aligned to the exterior face of the wall. I also would like to cut a sweep. But that's no problem just adding a parameter.
thanks for the help.
