Revit will do it automatically although you will have to either go to Object Styles (global change) or View Graphics (VG-view change) and specifiy what you want/don't want to see beyond the cut-line. From memory you can control the stingers & railings.

hi Adam,

i tried it, but unfortunately that only allows me to cut the stairs going above the plan cut plan. I'm trying to get it to cut below the cut plane as well..

cheers,

O.K. - have you tried a "Plan Region" instead (under Views) - this will allow you to specify the cut plan of a specific area in the plan, which sounds like what you need?

the only thing that i can think is covert it with a filled region. not the ideal situation, but at least you will get your desired result.

some components will show there entire extend when they just touch the view plane (floors for example).
