View Full Version : USE OF ROOM STYLE VS. PROPERTIES

There are two schools of thought on how to fill in the room finish schedules. To date, we have a schedule that identifies each wall (NSEW), with material and finish for each one, along with other data such as ceiling finish and height, flooring et... We've created a whole bunch of room styles as a key schedule that cover most of the variations we find, but are challenged when it comes to an anomaly that has one variation in the room style (a lower ceiling height than the other offices because of ductwork). Since I infilled all of the offices using the room style, Revit will not allow me to go to that one cell and change the height of the ceiling for that one office. Darn.

Alternately, I can ignore room styles, select all of the rooms I want to be the same, take the time to type in each of the instance parameters for each wall and its finish, etc... then hit okay and my schedule fills up. The advantage is that I can go to that one office and change its ceiling height, whereas I could not do this with room styles.

It would not be so difficult if we did not identify individual walls and ceiling heights, but we like this format as we use it for our colour schedule as well.

Is there a trick I am missing? Is there a way to "explode" a row of information for a room that was originally filled in by room style so that I could modify the one item such as ceiling height?

comments or opinions are appreciated.

I sure do wish that Revit would fill in ceiling material and height!

I think you are better off simply adding another key shcedule for that exception.
