Is there a way in a door family to tell the door frame (or whatever object) to align to the wall core, as opposed to the finish face or the centerline?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

No - you'll just have to make an instance parameter that allows you to move the door front to back in the wall...

Could you give a more concrete example? You can build your geometry and have it constrained to a wall layer within the family. To do this, edit the basic family in the family template to show finish layers, etc. and constrain geometry to it. I've done this with windows for example so that when inserted, the relationship of the window to the core boundary is the same, regardless of the wall.

I thought I had tried this, but maybe I didn't do something right...I'll try again and report on what happens. Thanks!

Can you be more specific about your process? I tried adding layers to my basic wall, but they don't show in the plan view. I found that I could see them in a Section view, so I made a reference plane off of the exterior of core and tried realigning my objects to that (though I'm not sure how it will know that it's exterior of core because I just selected the line between the two wall layers).
When I realigned a part of my door to that reference plane to test it, it now won't load into my test project.
Am I going about this the right way, or do you mean something different in the way you're doing it?
Thanks very much for your help!

Once you add the layers, make sure that your plan view is set to medium or fine detail. Now you should see them and constrain as required.
