Project Browser organisation

Dear all,

I have been looking at this extremely helpful thread (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=49442&highlight=organising+project+browser)by Wes and others, and have a couple more questions....

This method is FANTASTIC for organising the views, however:

Can a similar technique be used to organise the sheets? (and schedules and legends etc?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try this:

Settings > Project Parameters
Add a project parameter - use category "Drawing Sheets" and parameter type of "text" is usually a good one.

Settings > Browser Organization > Sheets tab
Add a new organization and group by the project parameter you added (and/or anything else listed there). Make sure to select your new organization before leaving the Browser Organization dialog box.

Go to the properties of the sheets and fill something in for the parameter.

Many thanks, I will try it on monday when I'm back in the office.

So thats the sheet sorted, what about schedules and legends? Doesn't look to me like there is any option for those?

Unfortunately, I don't believe you can sort schedules. Others have asked about this before.

The same parameter(s) that you use for views is also in legends, but it doesn't appear to actually "sort" anything.

There are other threads on sheet sorting, of course. I chose to summarize it here because the other threads I found were a bit convoluted.

If you are suing blank sheets for you MEP drawings you will more than likely have to make a sorting parameter for sheets and enter the order number for those sheets. MEPs dont follow any alpha-numeric order for there sheet numbers.

What I ended up doing was adding "discipline no" and "sheet type" as parameters

Discipline no ( the only way I could get the the G0.01 sheets to show up before the Architectural Sheets)

01 General
02 Civil
03 Architectural
04 Structural
05 CF Steel
06 Mechanical
07 Plumbing
08 Fire Protection
09 Electrical
10 Telecom
99 Construction Admin (for ASI sketches)

Sheet type

0 (for the sheets you want first)
1 (next set of sheets)
2 (etc.)

The sheet type became significant because the MEP sheet list might look like
M0.00 Notes
MD0.01 Demo flr 1
MD0.02 Demo flr 2
M1.01 New Work 1
M1.02 New work 2

So the only way I could get it to sort was to use the sheet type

M0.00.................0
MD0.01...............1
MD0.02...............1
M1.01..................2
M1.02..................2

This post really answered a lot of questions. I have the sheets in the browser sorting by discipline as I like.

But the problem I am trying to solve is the order of sheets when they are printed. Can the print command list these sheets any other way than alphabetical? I have them sorting as I wish in the browser, but the print command does not respect the new sort order.

No, There is no way to "organize" the files list within the print command, You could try the Batch Print Utility from the subscription site. It may, or may not have some added functionality for this.
