I have set up a project with several different levels and one being a negative elevation. When I create a view drawing it does not keep the negative value, it bumps all the other levels up so that the negative starts at 0. Is there a way of fixing this without manually moving the xref's down?

What are the file names? I think this is a file name issue not
a relative elevation issue. And or the order the xrefs were attached
is confusing the ACAD part of ADT.

I received your message and I could not remember if there were multiple files close to the same name so I started a new project, a house, with a basement elevation of -8'-6" and a ground floor of 0. the basement file was (foundation plan.dwg) and the ground was (first floor.dwg). I created a new view called perspective and the insertion point for the foundation plan was 0,0,0 and the insertion point of the first floor was 0,0,8'-6". Am I doing something wrong, or is there some setting I am not seeing?

It sounds like you have a problem with the baselines of the walls. Could it be inserting the drawings because you have a baseline set at the top of a wall rather than the bottom? The Top of your Foundation plan should be at 0" and the bottom of the first floor should be at 0" as well. The top of the wall of your first floor should be at 8'6"
Check and see where the baselines are on your walls and adjust your Levels accordingly and see if that fixes it.
