I've been doing some testing and get different results when copying door tags...

View the attached .PDF with video (You may need to click on video to start)

Method 1: Copy/Paste
Door tags are copied and get a unique number, but you get a message regarding "Mixed Group"... Once you finish, all appears well...

Method 2: Copy command
Door tags are copied and get a unique number. Probably the cleanest of the (3) methods, but you have to be sure that when you place the new tag, that it's placed close to the new door. Too far from it, and you don't get anything...

Method 3: Drag tag w/<ctr> key pressed.
Tag is copied, but it retains the original door number. If the original or new door number is changed, both tags update.

Isn't it better to tag each door? Or use the 'tag all not tagged' function? I can't think of any situation where I would want to copy door tags...

I knew someone was going to say that...

I agree 100%, but in a 150 person firm, people do things in a variety of ways and I thought it was beneficial to understand the different methods people "may" use and the repercussions of each.

I've trained around 90 people in our firm so far and you would be surprised the questions & methods people try. You can't tell them everything they shouldn't do...

There is another way... select the tag and then use "create similar" icon or "CS" shortcut.

And the difference between methods I believe is that you are tagging the door vs copying the tag.

Right! - A even better choice...

The one situation we have where we don't want 'tag all not tagged' is in multi-family, where the unit plans are detailed on separate sheets, but shown on the main floor plan sheets for reference at 3/32 or 1/16". Our practice is to right click on a door type, click select all similar, then hit tag all not tagged and check the box for only selected door types. We only use the type mark for tagging, so it works really well, and avoids the doors we don't want tagged. For the unique doors, just Tag...

We tend to encourage creating things 1st by "create similar", then by using the menus, 3rd by copy/paste, and only if those don't work, hit the 'copy' button up top. It seems to keep things the cleanest that way.
