Running 2008 on Xp. When I opened the dashboard for the first time it was empty. I filled it with what I wanted and it worked. I shut down for the day and this morning it is empty again. I added one item and shut it down and reopened and it is empty again.

Am I alone on this one?

Had someone give me the answer via email. You have to make sure that you can save changes in the workspace under Tools==>Workspaces==>Workplace settings.

If that option isn't set then your changes are only for that session only.

But a warning on workspaces. If you have made any customizations make sure you save them to a separate workspace because if you change from your current one you lose every visual customization that you have already made. Maybe this should be a request for 2009. Have a do you want to save changes to your current workspace prompt.

YUCK. If that happens, there'd better be a checkbox so I can never get asked that again. :p

You can tell AutoCAD to save changes to your current workspace in the Workspace Settings. I would still recommend saving your own personal workspace and don't modify the ones that ship with AutoCAD.

i've got the same issue. i've got workspace settings set to save, and i've hand saved it myself, yet i still get a blank dashboard when i start.

I hate to think this, but maybe the install was bad. I had a bad install where my pulldowns were also gone, and the dashboard being blank was one of the other problems. Of couse, it was installed on Vista. I blew out that machine, reloaded XP, and rebuilt my network deploy of ACA all over. It runs okay now, and the dashboard was alread full when I opened it the first time.

This is just brutal. I am not very proficient at creating these cui files and this just kills me that a release is let out with such a HUGE flaw. Just too complex.
Sad to say it, but I use SolidWorks now rather than AutoCAD- simply because of all of this change (not necessarily for the better)....

After uninstalling 2007 and doing a fresh install of 2008 there are several "things" that seem to be missing:

2D Dashboard is blank
"New Features" on the Dimension Tool bar are missing
2D Drafting & Annotation Workspace is missing as a selection in the Workspaces Toolbar

Any ideas?

I also have problems with the dashboard. It came up empty. I do not see any other workspaces to transfer it from. I am working in Windows XP. I transferred from 2007 everything. All my customized icons and toolbars transferred perfectly (thank you, thank you, thank you). Is reinstalling 2008 and transferring nothing my only option? Do I need to go through the hassel of transferring all (read 200+) my customized icons and toolbars individually (again!?!) this year?

1) Select the radio button "Do not save changes to workspace" in Workspace Settings and you can edit all the Workspaces even the current one.
2) I started putting all my toolbar bitmaps into a dll file back in r14. Now it's called custom.dll and all my custom commands menus, toolbars, and dashboard panels are in custom.cui. When upgrading to 2009 I'll just take those two files with me.
3) Combine dashboard panels from any loaded CUI into any workspaces dashboard.

Confusing at first, but a cool tool once you figure it out.
