I'm trying to creat an exposed portal frame. Is there anyway to control the ends of the structural beams....or do I have to creat in place geometry.
I have read a few post on here and there appears to be quite a bit of disussion about the control of structural members.

you need to create sweeps and in place families to beable to control anything. the stock components don't have any flexibility.

I'm not sure I want my steel to have that much flexibilty!

Hey, come on now, steel's great because it IS so flexible.
Seriously, has anyone already put together a non-structural beam family...i.e. one that does not behave in the typical beam fashion by ofsetting at the column/girder connection? If not, what is the best way to go about this? Can you start with the structural beam family and just remove parameters and change the family type and save it and go or do I have to start from scratch with redefining the family?

In some cases that is necessary specially if you have exposed structural components that act as architectural elements.
