Incremental File Saves

My system seems to be set up to make incremental file saves, every time I save during a session, a new file is added. Does anyone know how to how to control this? Settings>Options>General - altering 'journal clean up' details seems to have no effect.

Perhaps you are looking for this:

File>Saveas>Options>Maximum Number of Backups.
