This railing has got me beat. I don't know what to do to make them join. It's not even complex. The railing type is set to add horizontal and vertical segments in to clean up, and the rail joins are by type, but it won't add them. It's not because it's making a tight turn because if you pull it further away it still does it. I tried setting the short piece to a higher height to clean up with the upper rail which it will do and then it doesn't add a segment on the other side to drop down to the other rail. Does anyone know what's wrong, or have any tricks or workarounds to make it work?

I am not a "Stair Master" ;) but I think that you are trying to create something similar to the attached (and modified) stair file that you posted. I probably will not do a superb job of explaining this but here goes......

Basically, you want all railings to slope so that they meet. This is not accomplishable in the manner in which you had them modeled. You must give them point to level out and slope to meet up. This entails marking Yes for landing ht adjustment, extend rails to meet, and add vert / horiz segments. Once you define some extra space for the railing to come out onto the landing this will work out better for you. I know of no way to model what I think you were trying to accomplish with the shorter railing being only on the stair trim as shown.

If someone else know better how to achieve what you need then maybe I can learn yet another great trick! Have a great day!

Thanks! You know I tried pulling the handrail out further before, just didn't go far enough I guess. So, there's really nothing you can do to make it short, but this is good for now, since I have the room to do it.

Glad I could help.

I know that there is way to make the railing come up at the slope, turn left, go straight up for a few inches and then start up the next slope. I know this becuase I have seen it built from wood and steel pipe and have seen it detailed in 2d. I unfortunately have not figured out how to get Revit to model it.

I ran into another issue. I'm doing multiple flights of stairs. So, you have to draw the railing for each floor separate right? What do you do to join the two floors railings together? Here is a picture of the railing at the second floor where I made the first floor railing and the second floor railing turn into one another. You can tell by the line in the middle. Then, once I go up another flight and try to turn the top of the second floors railing in it thinks I want to connect it back to the beginning. Is there a way around this? What have others done? Do you make each flight a separate piece of railing?

Jamie - I am sorry but now you are getting a little over my head. I have not done anything major with multi-story like you are doing here. Mostly work with 2-story residential here. However, I did mess around with the multi-story about 3 years ago and I am aware that there is a "multi-story" check box when you create the stairs. Give this a try and see what you come up with.

At this point I would recommend that you PM Wes or Mr. Spot and ask them what they do. They may be able to help you more. Either way let me know what you find out, please!

I run into this problem before and manage to solve my multi-storey railing issue (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=53035&highlight=multi-story+stairs)
I did use the multistory stairs are you using the same or you have different story height for each floor?

It's 7 floors, and almost all are different floor to floor heights. Either way, multistory stairs or not, the railings are all lined up on the floor side which causes this problem to occur. Two solutions:

1. I tried one flight of stairs at a time per railing and joined them in the middle of the turnaround, which ends up with a line through the middle of the turnaround in 3D and plan, but it worked.

2. I just tried the method discussed in the thread you posted, which is to make a separate piece of railing to wrap around at each floor to connect the two railings, which ends up looking great in 3D but shows weld joints at each turn in plan, but this method works as well.

I'd rather do it the second way, since splitting each floors railings into two is a pain. Thanks a lot! :)

Jamie actually my solution to that problem is different I did not follow the one posted in there if you notice the railings are seamless you can actually have the new railing to wrap correctly in the upper storey railing.

I have attached a multi storey railing with different floor to floor height and it wraps correctly.

I thought multi-story might be the answer for him. I was just not familiar enough with it to be able to go beyond what I did. Now I know for sure it will work also!
