I have never had a need to do this, so I guess I've never thought about it, but is there a way to delete your text types or any specific text types that you don't want or need anymore. What brought this on; I opened up my current titleblock because I was going to edit the size and just update it. I created this titleblock roughly 1 year ago, and since then we have decided to change text type and just move a few things around in there. When I created this thing, I was experimenting with different text etc., so needless to say, I have about 14 diff. types of text in there that I most definitly don't want or need anymore. I then just wanted to get rid of them and/or just change the ones that were being used to the one I would like to use, which is easy enough, except I want the other ones to dissapear. I can't find any info on this, which is leading me to believe it can't be done. It would be nice if we had a nice central spot to manage the text types. Hopefully I'm missing something. Keep in mind I'm doing this in a family.

Thanks
Josh

I do not know of any central repository of text types like in ACAD although I am sure it is there. To solve your tb template problem I believe a simple purge will work.

You can do a purge unused, but if they are being used anywhere, they will not come out, so heres what i do:

Pick the one text type you DO want to keep. Then, put a piece of text in a drafting view, using a type you want to get rid of. Select it, right click, and select all instances. Then switch the type to the one you want to keep.

Go through that (it goes quick) for all the types you dont want, THEN do a purge unused. All gone. :)

Alright. That's what I thought. I knew if I used the purge method, I would have to copy the text I wanted to keep into another view, then change it, purge and put it back in as you just suggested.

Would you guys find a central location for text, dimension types etc. a convienient thing? I know this is approaching autocad, but I still think it owuld be nice and easier to manage. Not to big of deal as it is, it would just be an improvment.

Thanks guys!

Josh

Woah woah... Thats a different method than i was thinking. The way i was thinking doesnt invlove copying or moving/replacing any of the text in the project, itll just automatically switch the types to the one you want to keep.

I think the current method of organization works well, as long as someone is consistantly going through the model to check on stuff like that.

i take an hour or so a week, early in the morning or late in the evening. I run through family types, text types, dim types, etc... looking for types like "Dim Style 3/8 arial 2" because when i see the "2" at the end i know someone hit edit/new and wasnt paying attention, lol.

oh yeah, no kidding. All you have to do is change each piece of text you have in there currently, that you want to keep, to the new style you are looking for. Then when you have them all updated, then you do a purge, because none of the other ones are being used anymore......

See, that's why I post this stuff on AUGI!!

Thanks for the correction!

No problem... I learned that the hard way, after realizing people were copying and pasting text type sin to a project, and they were ALL DIFFERENT TYPES. Not to be OCD about it, but there were literally about 40 types to replace, and i was like Man... If i have to retype all this.... LOL... :)

Aaron, this is an old post, but I'm in a situation where I am trying to clean up a template, and I can't seem the get some of the text styles in the purge unused list. I did what you said (which was my first thought as well), and when I select all instances, the filter tool only shows the one piece of text I just made. It seems there are some other dependencies in play, but I can't seem to think what they are. Any thoughts?

Do you have any attached detail groups in your template/ project file? If the text is part of a group it will not delete/ change the text unless you ungroup or edit the group first.

check the schedules.....schedules tend to keep stuff... (like unwanted view titles)

Hey guys, thanks for the input...I only have 3 detail groups in the template...I have checked all three and they don't have the text styles I am wanting to purge.

Michael, I'm not sure how you mean to check the schedules. Best I can tell, the schedule text works by actually selecting the font style, not are Revit text style. Can you clarify?

Yeah....try deleting any schedules then try to purge them.

I had a very clean template, brought over some schedules (abbreviations and such) and I got a bunch of View Titles...I am wondering if the text styles are tagging along the same method...

okay, yeah, it was actually the legends, not the schedules. Turns out, the text did exist in one legend I had, but for some reason, Select All Instances wasn't working for it. It wasn't grouped or anything...wierd.

Thanks for the help!
