Okay, here's the puzzle. we have 7 levels in our project and all but the 6th level ceiling plan is behaving correctly.

When we go to create a ceiling on the 6th floor, go to the properties of the ceiling, the level that it defaults to is the 7th floor instead of the 6th floor. when we change it when doing a ceiling and finish the sketch, then start a new ceiling on the same level, Revit does not remember the settings (changing the associated level to 6th instead of 7th) that we just made in the last ceiling sketch. now, we can go in and change the properties every time we create a new ceiling, but that can fairly tedious. this does not happen on any other ceiling floor level. we have checked the view properties on the 6th floor ceiling plan and it does associate the 6th floor with it, but just not when we try to create the ceiling. where else could i try to see why the ceiling properties aren't behaving correctly.

so basically, the ceiling properties for the 6th floor is not defaulting to the associated level correctly every time we sketch a new ceiling. some side info: the level heights are the same for all levels.

You need to delete that ceiling plan and recreate it using the proper level. Someone must have just copied a ceiling plan, renamed it and changed the view range. there is no way to change the level association of a view.

hmmm...i tried creating another ceiling plan, and the problem went away...thanks. but why does the view property show it correctly associating with the level and it is just when we draw a ceiling it does not?

if the view does say its associated with the correct level, then the fix is just to click the Plane button and chose the right level, someone may have edited the workplane in that view at one point to put something in or just by accident.

Yeah, it was your workplane. I've got that question many times from users. You don't need to recreate the level, just click on plane and set it to the right level before creating the ceilings.
