I have an iPaq 3950 which suddenly refuses to turn on!!!
It has done this a couple of other times before, but, only for a couple of seconds.
The power button has no effect, I even pressed the reset button, and NADA. It had a charge, it wasn't dead. I also plugged it in thinking that might jar it back to life. But, NOTHING!
 Can anyone think of anything else that I can try? I could gain access to a defibrulator if necessary.

A. Battery is dead. They don't last forever.
B. CMOS is corrupt. Bad news.

~sigh~ That's what I am afraid of, bad news. I love my toy.
So, what do I do now?

Battery can be replaced. I replaced mine myself with a kit from the web. It was quick and easy. I doubt the CMOS is bad or it wouldn't flash on at all....

Thanks for the input aaron. I'll have to check out one of those kits. :-)

I found the battery for $60, or a kit for $80. Now, I can just fill out about 20 pages of paperwork to justify it. ;p fun. Thanks again.

Have you got a valid backup?

You might try "HARD" resetting it. Not from the reset at the bottom but by holding down 3 or 4 buttons simultaneously and then pressing the reset. Look it up in your manual. This will take it back to the default install, so be prepared to reinstall all your addons.

Yeah, I just synched it a couple of hours before it died, so I wouldn't lose much with a hard reset. But, sadly, no dice.

I was wondering where the hard reset went between my last model and this one, I guess they wanted to make it clear which once was the soft reset (after I gave my last one to my boss, I accidently did him a hard reset instead of a soft. WHOOPS! )

I have my secretary calling around to see if we can get a battery kit from a local reseller.

Thanks for the tip.

Well, the battery finally came in. Took about 2 minutes to install... nada. I'm gonna have to call this one... Sept 13th, 1:55pm. ~slowly pulls bubble wrap over screen~

This is so sad, I loved my toy, and I had just gotten the laser distance measuring device which inputs directly into pocketcad... ~sigh~

Now, time to ask for tablet pc reviews...

Sorry about your loss. Just remember the good time you had. :-(

But... how do I tell my boss? I don't even know what a cmos is? (that is what aaron said it probably was if it wasn't the battery) I need to explain to my boss what is wrong with it and that it can't be fixed, before I can begin the process of trying to replace it. What do I tell him?
