Insert image file (TIFF) into an AutoCAD drawing file

Hello, I have inserted a .tiff into a drawing, now it seems that if I move th edrawing into a different folder a message is displayed on th edrawing that states the file address that was the .tiff that I inserted. The image isn't there.
Is there a way to insert a .tiff and have it be truly "embedded" not just linked to a file?

You will have to go into the image manager and repath the image file.

From 2007 onwards you have the option of setting the path as relative which means if you move a folder containing both the image and the dwg file then the path will be retained.

In my experience, AutoCAD is generally dumb as rocks when it comes to reference files. It's not quite as bad with DWG (xrefs) as with images, but it still forces the user to go through a lot of hoops just to move host files from one location to another, and still have AutoCAD be able to find the reference files when the host files are opened from the new location. So the answer is probably no, there's no easy way - after you move your file, you have to open it, open the image manager, select the image, and then browse to the image file's location to tell AutoCAD where to find it.

I've also found in older versions (2002), even drawings that have NOT been moved sometimes fail to display or print attached images, even though the image manager says the image is loaded. You have to select "Reload" in order to get the image to display or print.

Note also that if the image is part of an xref, selecting "Reload" may crash AutoCAD 2002. Additionally, if you try to use the ETRANSMIT command on a drawing that has an image listed as "Not Found" in the image manager, that will also crash AutoCAD 2002. Later versions of AutoCAD (2006) appear to handle images more gracefully.

We normally keep both the image and host drawing in the same folder and attach it with 'No Path' option. The advantage is that, wherever you move the folder, the image will still be available in the drawing.

Unfortunately, this is a problem everyone feels. I agree with Michael, they have worked on this some... I can't remember the last time I plotted a drawing without the XREF's plotting. What gets me is that this should be a fairly simple fix. Dreamweaver (a HTML editing software) uses relative links for reference files, and automatically updates links when files are moved. Why can't AutoCAD figure this out?
