I have just downloaded Revit Architecture 2008 to my computer; I couldn't wait for the CD!!
But, where are the tutorials? I followed the instructions and went to the http://www.autodesk.com/revitbuilding-documentation-enu page to access the Autodesk Revit Architecture 2008 Documentation download page, but there is nothing there for R.A. 2008. How can I get them? Thanks.

tatjana,

Will we have the opportunity to have the choice of a manual or tutorials in book form as with 9,1. That was a big help to me. If so when would the be available?

Thank you. I'll be waiting for them. The tutorials are very good and valuable. Every time I go over one or another, I learn something new.

tatjana,

On the 14th, when you said Monday, you obviously meant next Monday or ..... ? Certainly wasn't Monday the 16th

Tatjana,

I just downloaded and installed Revit Architecture 2008. Does the New Features Workshop not work on everybody's or just mine? Is this the same as the tutorials? If will we have a complete new build and reinstall or is it possible just to add the tutorials or new features workshop?

Thanks

New features workshop should be functioning form the DVD or web install. The tutorials are in the process of being posted to the web. Thank you for you patience.

Thanks Jeff for the reply.

I installed from the web and so far this is the only problem I've had, is there another way
I can start the new features workshop? It comes up when I start Revit but will not load
I have tried going through the help menu but it also comes up to a blank dialogue box.
I have loaded a large residential project that was started in 9.1 and have found some new features that I would like more info on. So far no crashes or slow down problems.

James,

I don't know why the new features workshop is not working on your PC. It run using Flash. The one suggestion I might give is to try updating your Flashplayer to the latest version. Perhaps you have an older version of Flashplayer that is preventing the New Features workshop from playing.

Did you try "clicking" on the empty workshop box?

All I can say is that one of the installations we did (I can't remember if it was from the dvd or the web) had the same issue initially...

Thankfully, when I "clicked" on the empty workshop box, it indicated that something hadn't been installed and asked if it should install it... I selected to go ahead and install and that fixed it.

Sorry I can't be more specific; I really wasn't paying that much attention at the time.

I opened the New features workshop it came up to the same blank dialogue box. I tried clicking in the box and the menu bar at the top. It pulled up an Adobe page and said that the flash player had been updated to the latest version. Still no new features workshop. Anymore ideas? Any suggestions or things to try will be appreciated.

Hi!
You can check several things: Your IE settings (Internet Explorer security settings may be set to not open the file in a new window). You can try using Firefox instead to open the files.

Also in certain circumstances if the tutorials are not on the C: drive but on a server or a mapped/external drive, a new window will open blank. I have had this issue with other software recently (non-Autodesk related).
Best regards,

You may want to try clearing your temp internet files. I have seen this stop the NFW from running correctly.

Jeff,

I have followed the instruction to download the tutorials but can't locate any CHM files in Revit 2008. I have one istallation done from the web and the other from a disk. I currently have the Imperial tutorial exe in my Rveit 2008 folder but no CHM files. What am I missing?

I also had one PC where there was no .chm tutorial file in the Program folder to overwrite (I spent ages looking for it) so I just unpacked the new file in there and it all works fine.

I thought it was strange at the time but I definitely could not find the 'placeholder' file with the same name as the downloaded Tutorial file (once double-clicked of course).

On 2 other PCs it all went just as described in the Autodesk download instructions - removed the Read Only attributes and unpacked and overwrote the original.

I have followed the instruction to download the tutorials but can't locate any CHM files in Revit 2008.

The tutorial CHM file should be found at the following location

C:\Program Files\Revit Architecture 2008\Program\TutorialsBuildingImpENU.chm

If you have a file at that location make sure the read only flag is removed from the file when extracting the downloaded ZIP file.

It unpacks to the C:\ drive by default but Revit Help will not see it of course if, like me, you've installed Revit to the D:\ drive and it needs copying across or changing the drive letter when Unzipping.

I've got the new features workshop and am trying to figure out why the animations don't work. The AutoCAD new features animations work fine but I can't seem to get any to run in Revit.

The animations - if you mean the sort of slide show in the New Features Workshop - is a Flash movie run within the HTML help system and so is probably linked to how Flash works within Internet Explorer.

Mine run OK with Flash Player 9.0.28.0 (right click the animation and choose 'About Adobe Flash Player 9..' but the latest is 9.0.45.0 apparently.

Weird that it works with Autocad but not Revit as it shouldn't really have anything to do with the particular software.

You could try checking the version of Flash Player and if it works normally within IE playing Flash Movies.

Make sure your Flash player is up to date. I have also seen problems with a full browser cache causing problems. Make sure your IE browser cache is empty and try again. It is very odd the AutoCAD one is working while the Revit one is not. They are authored in exactly the same way but play different movies and have different text. The underlying structure is exactly the same. (I think, unless someone changed something :-) )

Can someone set me straight on the tutorials? I see on the download page tutorials and datasets. Do I need to download the datasets or is that just the work done in the tutorials as a completed project (to show how a tutorial should look when done)?

And if you do need all those datasets, why not zip them into one file, so that they can all be downloaded at one time? Seems like a lot of work when they are separate. Or since they are so LARGE, just keep them on the installation DVD and load them at install. We really have time to download this stuff?

Thanks,

When you run the tutorials - which are text based - they ask you to open such and such a project in the Imperial or Metric training folder - which is where the datasets come in.

Basically they give you projects in various stages of completion and you use them to work through the step by step tutorials.

As you say though, given the spare space on the dvd it's unfortunate they don't come on that - I guess there wasn't time?

We are trying to create our own Office CHM file for revit. Does anyone know how to tell revit to add it to the help menu?

ws
2007-06-30, 03:02 PM
The list of links in the Help menu seems to be hard coded into Revit - although the revitcadmanagerctrl utility can add and subtract at least one entry.

You could rename the default read-only Help file
X:\Program Files\Revit Architecture 2008\Program\HelpBuildingENU.chm
to something else and then use the original filename for your own Help file - at a quick tryout that looked as though it might work..

except that setting up a true .chm file seems complex.

I came across this article on the file format
http://www.speakeasy.org/~russotto/chm/chmformat.html
which is probably little practical help... ;-)
but there appear to be several shareware utilities available for making html and chm help files.
