Finish floors have always been a problem for me. I want them turned on in certain views and off in others. Here is how to do it. Its fast and easy.

From the menu, go Settings/Object Styles.
Make a new subcategory under floors. Call it 'FinishFloor' or whatever works for you.

Now in a plan view make an in-place floor family.
extrude it from the top of level 1 for example up 1/8" of an inch or so.
Under properties set the subcategory of the family to 'FinishFloor'. Set the material, finish the family and presto! you have it.

You can now turn it off separately from your other floors using the standard view settings.

Thats a handy tip Jake.

Another approach is to paint the floor with the material finish, then turn off the sub-category "surface pattern" under floors in Visibility settings. For a portion of a large floor, like a Bathroom, you would need to split the face of the floor first before painting.

Another solution is to work with worksets. Create a "Finishes" workset that you place finish floors in and simply toggle that workset on and off by view.

I use this technique with stairs sometimes. I.e., have a rough framing residential stair that has no nosings - it cleans up nicely with floors at the top - then add a second stair object that has finish nosings and treads. Place the second one in the "Finishes" worksets.

Chris,
Awesome idea, great use of worksets. Then you can still use pick walls to define the floor.
