I'm trying to open a cad file created in inventor. the files are saved as .stp which I'm told is a step file. If anyone has had any luck with this or can point me in the right direction I'd like to convert those files to .dwg's. if you want to try it yourself I'm trying to get drawings of part # bca49m223 from the turck website www.turck.com

The .dwg is in the 2d folder. The 3d file is a Viz file. I'm guessing the rendered it in Viz.
Hope that helps.

Hi "jspagnola.137832"

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD Tips & Tricks (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=180) forum to this one, as I feel this particular forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

Thanks, Mike

ok why can't I see a .stp file? someone told me that I could type stepin in the command line and it would import a step file, but AutoCAD 2006 doesn't recognize the command.

I think you need Mechanical Desktop for that.

I didn't even know that I had a stepin command. It was there the entire time!
I was opening inventor for all of my step files.
