I am trying to create a chart using the table feature of Autocad 2008. When I create the table, and then try to save the drawing with a new file name using the "save as" command, I get the error message, "Document has a command in progress, hit enter to cancel." The thing is, the only command in progress is the "save as" command.
I just tried to "save" the document, and get the same message, so I can't even save a copy to attach to this message. I have only run into this when using the table function.
This is a stand alone version of 2008 on a new PC running the Windows 2000 operating system (same o.s. used network wide, probably won't upgrade until a later Vista version is available).

I've had this issue with AutoCad 2007 as well. In the AutoCAD command console manually type SAVE (do not use the save icon or button). Then the document should (hopefully) work fine.

Thank you for contacting Autodesk Support. In most cases the error you are seeing when saving is being caused because the Design Center or another palette is still trying to do something in the software while attempting to save. I recommend making sure that all tool palettes, properties palettes, and the design center is closed by selecting the X button to close them. Normally this will resolve the issue. If it does not please let me know so that I can continue to troubleshoot the problem.
That wasn't the problem with me. I had started my drawing in ADT 2007, and when I went to ACA 2008 it started happening. I had inserted it into a 2008 template, but it was corrupt somehow. All I did was open the template again, and reinsert the drawing and that fixed the problem (so far, anyway). It hasn't happened in a week, and it was happening at every save.
Another work around is to type "save" at the command line, then either overwrite the file, or rename it. When you type the "save" command, it creates a new file name, but leaves the previous file open. In other words, if you have floor open, type "save", save it as floor 1, floor will remain open and floor 1 will be created, instead of the other way around (like save as).
I'm running Vista, so it's not an OS issue, at least I hope not!
Hope that helps.

If the previous advice has not worked. Can you do a copy and paste into a new drawing then you will be sure that there are no commands in progress. Then you can save your new drawings.

Look for ID: TS48899 on the autodesk website. I think it may shed some light. I have been running onto this a lot lately while using 3D.

I did find that I can save it by typing "save" in the command line, but I lose all changes that occured after my last successful save. I am going to also try the copy and paste and will check out the tech bulletin referred to in the previous post. My buddy in the next cube is also having some issues, but with a different problem.
Thanks

Autodesk really needs to fix this. Apparently this has been happening for many years.
I didn't experience this until I started using C3D 2007 about a year ago but since then it happens at least once a week. When this has happened to me I can't execute any commands in the drawing. I just wait for the next autosave then use Task Manager to end task.
I will need to look at closing all of my palettes and see if that helps but I am not holding my breath.
