Attached please find my first attempt at making a dynamic block. I am very proud of them. I have not found them anywhere, so I thought I'd create it. It is a pair of exit signs - one ceiling mounted and one wall mounted. I made them both because of the different insertion points. You can choose either one side, two side and arrows on or off. Pretty cool.

Enjoy

Enjoyi'm sorry, but isn't a floor mounted exit sign kind of a trip hazard? :?

j/k welcome!!

We will have expect great blocks from you if these are your 1st attempt! ;)

Great Start,

You could still combine them into one with the different visual states even though they have different insertion points. You just make sure that in each visual state the point you want to be the insertion point is at 0,0. That way if something in the design changes you can just switch the sign instead of replacing it. The button in the editor that allows you to see the hidden items is really helpful in figuring it out. I learned by looking at other peoples examples and there are a lot of great blocks available here.

Keep up the great work,

Daryl

I am pretty sure he meant wall mounted and not floor mounted, but I have seen floor mounted exit signs. :O

As a firefighter I always wondered why there weren't Exit Signs required to be on the floor also.

Think about it... when a room fills with smoke what do you do (besides panic)... you usually drop to floor and look for the nearest door. Well, except for on TV shows, smoke blocks light so you won't see ceiling or wall mounted signs.... that's why they put those lights in the floors of airplanes...

Well sorry for going off topic a bit.

Hope everyone stays safe....

As we say at the fire house: Stay low and let it blow... we'll put the wet stuff on the red stuff!

Would you mind re-posting those files? For some reason they are coming up as invalid files. I'm dying for a dynamic exit sign!

please see the sticky threads on file conversion tool (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=53958)by Autodesk. it's most likely that your Acad is an older version than what created the posted version. I don't recommend that users post multiple versions, it takes up space needlessly when we have (free) tools available to correct those error messages.
Thanks!

Here is another version of a dynamic exit sign I created a few months ago.

It's good.

But you might want to consider using a rotate parameter instead of copying and mirroring the geometry 4 times. Try this one and see how you like it ...
