View Full Version : Attributes are killing me (us)!!!!

We received some base plans from our Architect, and in working with his files our computers crash almost everytime we move our mouse over their plumbing fixture blocks. Unforunately, some of the blocks have been exploded an there is random garbage floting out there that we can't figure out how to delete, ie. attributes (text with no text) so we can't select it and delete it.

Is there a lisp routine or something out there to help us clean the drawings up so they are functional?

We're using ADT2004

Thanks!

Aaron

You can use the find command to find the text and replace them with something. Then you can select and delete them.

Take a look at this :

Also what version or product are these 'bad' drawings coming from?
It might be possible that the sender should set his enable proxy
graphics differently to enable them to be viewed in your version
without crashing it. Or perhaps it is your proxy settings, and or
lack of an object enabler.

This may be of help and a bit of a pain to set up but if you do a lot of work with this firm might be worth a try.

Identify the offending blocks, explode them after making a note of the insertion point and then redefefine them without the attributes using the same name and insertion point. save the new blocks in a master file. Everytime you recieve a drawing from this firm insert it into your master file befor saving it under a new name.

Not only will this remove the offending attributes it will convert the blocks to your CAD standards.

This seems like a bad idea, first it removes the attribute data from the blocks
that have it. Second it removes the attribute data entirely. Yes it might get rid
a crash, only it also removes what one would imagine to be usefull data at the
same time. I would like to see a copy of one of the files from this user, so that
I can make a more definitive diagnosis and offer the most correct solution.
Also what version and add-ons the file is originating in, before it gets to his ADT

True, by redefining the blocks data is lost, but the data contained in the attributes is probably in this case required by the Architect and used to compile their sanitry fitting schedule. Basin, tap type etc. Information which would not be used by the Plumbing Consultant or installing Contractor and so no bid deal.

I quite regularly redefine blocks in drawings recieved from Architects where they clutter up the drawing thus making the drawing simpiler read.

Everyone works in different ways and I like to keep files small as possible probably a hang over from working on a 486dx2 with 8 meg ram a top of the range system at the time and tizzy s*** slowed the whole thing down.
