building pad overlapping

I keep receiving an error message when editing my building pad. I have two pads at different elevations that share a common edge in plpan view. Despite picking the same line (the common edge of an imported AutoCAD plan underlay) for each pad when editing them, I still receive the error message: "Building pads cannot overlap (but they can share the same edge." Is there any other variable that might be affecting this? Thanks
