I somehow have a feeling that this may be alot easier than i am making it. I am looking for a way to "bubble diagram" a space layout in Revit. I have seen this done before and wish i would have paid more attention to the details of how this was made to work.
First off- my approach, I decided on an attempt using room separtation lines, i think i read that one somewhere... sounded like a good idea but i cant get the functionality i am looking for with that approach- i want to be able to have rooms that i can test different sizes on, actively... active dimensions dont work with room separation lines the way i would want them to, say as if i was adjusting a wall in a fully modeled room, select a wall, active dimensions appear and i can say 6' for the new length... linework has this "live flex" workability but isnt recognized as a bounding object...has anyone found a successful method to this workflow?

thanks-

I would just use masses, and you can tag the masses to report their areas. For rectangular masses, you can dimension their walls and let the dimensions update on the fly as you drag the mass perimeters.
I just did that on a project and it worked pretty well. You can also schedule your masses to get the total area of the project. Also, you can set the colors of the masses to indicate different functional areas.

I've done this and Revit works okay for this sort of work -- some notes on how I've done it plus some suggestions from others:

Hope that helps!

Thanks Wes & Mike for your help, i have given both approaches a fast work out and am pretty satisfied with how each turned out.. the massing idea seemed more difficult to get familiar with, esp. regarding my lack of experience with that part of revit. The thread in Wes's reply was great, and i felt the generic wall type as a line work-around was great- i was able to tie into the room scheduling functionality with that method. Great suggestions all around!
