I have to provide several different area measurements on a set of drawings I'm doing at the moment e.g. habitable space (inside of external walls), total building area (outside of external walls), area under roof, area for each floor etc.

I knew how to do this in Autocad with polylines, but I don't know how it's done in Revit. I've seen individual room areas in the Room Schedule, but I feel sure there will be a way to do what I need in a specific way in Revit. I've had a look in Help, but couldn't find anything.

Hope someone can help.

You want to start by taking a look at the Revit Help file.

Under the Contents section, look under "Annotation and Detailing" > "Area Analysis"

Read up on that and then follow up here with specific questions or issues you might be having.

Also, if the frustration gets too much, you can draw a filled region over the area and look in the properties to get the area (same process as Autocad's polyline).

Having said that, this is a last resort method and you would do well to follow the guidelines from irusun.

Thanks Irusun and rjcrowther

Your input worked a treat and I've ended up creating a large number of area plans, which will be very important in my final documentation. Isn't it good when something that was a complete mystery becomes "second nature" - well maybe not quite yet.
