This would be a dream come true...
Drawing lines, and converting to ducts and pipes...
Why?
This way you can just trace old Autocad drawings, and convert the existing layout to ducts, or pipes...
I worked on a project that had CAD files in autocad...requested that we convert the autocad MEP drawings to Revit, and it would have been faster to touch the lines and have them convert to pipes or ducts...(Just like Architectural Revit, which can convert Lines, to walls, by using the arrow feature)
I will not be the last time...it's a good feature to have.
Or has this been done with MEP 2008?
Does it make good sense? YES, you'll aways have 2d CAD files, while there exists plain AutoCAD.
Would it be productive? YES, Architectural Revit has already proved it, with walls.
