Ok. So I am a new user to 2006 Civil 3D so you gurus out there go easy. I would like pick point objects along an alignment at variable offsets (i.e. Top of curb or Lip) and create a text file of alignment station and point elevation. Is this possible??

Hi WilsonK (Sorry don't have your name)
There are a couple ways you can do this. It depends on what you need. You can manually place (Create Points - Manual) at the locations you want and use a Corridor as the reference surface once you have it built, then create a Point Group and include these points (Similar to LDT), then export that point group to a CSV or ASCII or even a LandXML file that you can create a report on with the data you require in a nice neat format. I would suggest building your corridor first, you will need an existing surface, an alignment and a Profile, once you have those three built, create an assembly (similar to a Template in LDT) and create your corridor. This way, when you make a change to the alignment of vertical profile, your surface will update and so will your Point elevations!

How do you get point elevations to update automatically to a surface? I thought it was necessary to run the "Elevations from suface..." command to update the point elevations if the surface changes...

Hi Sinc,
If you use a reference text object in the Point Label that references the corridor or fg surface. When you update the surface, then do a regenall and the labels will update as well.

Thanks MHultgren..I will try that and get back to you

Hi Sinc,
If you use a reference text object in the Point Label that references the corridor or fg surface.

So the elevation of the point doesn't change? Just the reference text in the point label?

Hi Sinc,
The trick is attaching the point to an object within the Corridor. Like an endpoint or midpoint of a curve. RP's are a bit tricky though, since there is nothing to attach to except a node. Using the Elevation from surface will autoupdate for you though after a regen as well.
