Here's another thing I wanted to do with Design Options but cannot....I want to schedule rooms and doors that occur in JUST that design option: I don't want to see what's in the main model. For example I'm taking some spaces and elements out of a design and putting them on a "Cost Reduction" design option. This way, if I want to "re-instate" some items back in the job, I can do that, without having to re-create geometry. By scheduling just the elements that are in the "Cost Reduction" design option, we could easily see how many things we're taking out, perhaps even run a cost estimate through that schedule. Is there another way that I'm missing? The only way around this that I know of is to take everything out of the main model and put it on it's own design option, which I won't be doing. Another possible workaround would be to use phasing, but that's too much work for what I want. We simply need the ability to exclude items in the Main Model under the schedule's Visibility settings (where you choose a design option).

Ive seen it done where the families all have a Value Engineering Yes/No parameter, and the schedules are then all Filtered for value engineering. Its just another approach, but then the physical geometry is still in your main model and visible...
If you want to show them altered and/or dashed, you can use a Visibility Filter of the Parameter VE (id even take it one step further, and add the parameter to all elements in the project via the Project Parameters dialogue). BUT, you can only show the items dashed or not show them, but i dont know of a way to undo them. (You can make doors disappear, but the hole in the wall will still be there...)

Wellll I know I could do that ;) That's yet another workaround that could get me what I want. In this case it's really as simple as wanting to schedule doors and rooms that occur in a specific design option only (I'm not after any plan view visibility). I thought I would get a "free" schedule out of placing the V.E. items in a design option, but I was wrong
