I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO ROTATE A VIEWPORT. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME?

Activate the viewport (modelspace) and use the DVIEW Twist option

Using ABS2005-

When I use dview>twist, I can get the view to be rotated, but when I need to reposition the view, I click into the viewport and the view is being reset to the original or model space view. I used to use mvsetup, which worked great, until now. When I use mvsetup, I go through the command and at the end it reset back to the model space view. I do not have the viewport locked. Any ideas would be great.

Let's see Joe.

By default when one uses the MVIEW command the
resultant viewport is zoomed to extents with NO view
rotation at all.

When one is in a Layout Tab (paperspace) and one makes a viewport
the view zooms extents and there is no rotation.
Then one issues the DVIEW command through that viewport
and specifies TWIST and enters the desired rotation.

Then when one whishes to pan the viewport to reposition the
model in the view. One double-clicks inside the viewport to
activate modelspace isues the pan command and pans the view
this has no impact on either viewport scale or the dview twist.

The following text is from my command line while perofrming the above:

Command: <Switching to: Layout1>
Regenerating layout.

Command: mview

Specify corner of viewport or
[ON/OFF/Fit/Shadeplot/Lock/Object/Polygonal/Restore/2/3/4] <Fit>:
Specify opposite corner: Regenerating model.

Command: Specify opposite corner: *Cancel*

Command: _.MSPACE
Command: dview

Select objects or <use DVIEWBLOCK>: 1 found

Select objects or <use DVIEWBLOCK>:
Enter option
[CAmera/TArget/Distance/POints/PAn/Zoom/TWist/CLip/Hide/Off/Undo]: tw

Specify view twist angle <0.00>: -45

Enter option
[CAmera/TArget/Distance/POints/PAn/Zoom/TWist/CLip/Hide/Off/Undo]:
Regenerating model.

Command: ps
PSPACE
Command: ms
MSPACE
Command: pan

Press ESC or ENTER to exit, or right-click to display shortcut menu.

Command: ps
PSPACE

Hey Mike, Thanks for your help on this.

I did not use the mview, I used "mvsetup" and that allows you to rotate the viewport.

Command: mvsetup>align>rotate

then it will ask you to pick a point, then ask rotation, at this moment it attempts to rotate and even there is a flash screen showing that it has rotated, but just as you think all is good, it goes back to it original position - model space view.

This command worked for me in the past for some reason it is not working now.

Just to get the project done, I rotated the viewport via the ucs.

OK Joe,

If one uses MVSETUP the command prompts should be as follows:

Command: mvsetup

Initializing...
Creating the default file mvsetup.dfs
in the directory C:Documents and SettingsMichael FarrellApplication
DataAutodeskAutodesk Land Desktop 2005R16.1enusupport.
Enter an option [Align/Create/Scale viewports/Options/Title block/Undo]: c
Enter option [Delete objects/Create viewports/Undo] <Create>:
Available layout options: . . .

0: None
1: Single
2: Std. Engineering
3: Array of Viewports
Enter layout number to load or [Redisplay]: 1

Specify first corner of bounding area for viewport(s):
Specify opposite corner:
Enter an option [Align/Create/Scale viewports/Options/Title block/Undo]: o

Enter an option [Layer/LImits/Units/Xref] <exit>:

Enter an option [Align/Create/Scale viewports/Options/Title block/Undo]: a

Enter an option [Angled/Horizontal/Vertical alignment/Rotate view/Undo]: r

Specify basepoint in the viewport with the view to be rotated: (select the base point)

Specify angle from basepoint: (Enter an angle or point in your desired direction)

Enter an option [Angled/Horizontal/Vertical alignment/Rotate view/Undo]:

Enter an option [Align/Create/Scale viewports/Options/Title block/Undo]:

Done!

Then when one pans the Aligned/Rotated view all is well and the rotation
is maintained.

Much easier -

in your current, unrotated vport type
UCS
Z
90 (or -90 or whatever)
Plan
enter
enter.

You've rotated the UCS and set a view plan to that UCS so it will not revert because of UCSFOLLOW.
