View Full Version : Part Builder-Origin 0,0,0 Elev=30?

Hello,

I have a couple (to start with) of questions concerning Part Builder. I am trying to model a curb inlet.

1. When I set the first "top" working plane I noticed that it is at an "elevation" (or Z value) of 30. Does this represent units (inches)? Does it matter that the top is at this plane?

2. Does the model need to be drawn so that the insertion point that we want is centered at 0,0? (x,y)

I have the chapter from the user guide (2008) printed but still have questions. Is there any other tutorials or help available?

Thanks,

Daryl

Daryl,

I modeled the Curb Inlets for COW and may be able to help you model them. In regards to your questions.....

1) I did not see this when I modeled the inlets, so I tried to model another one just now and did not have that problem.

2) I modeled the inlets, changed the view to be top and set the flowline of my inlets at 0,0 and then when I go to insert them, I pick where the inlet is to intersect the flowline. Seems to work best for me.

(attached are images of the Standard Type 1-A COW inlets. I am sure you are familiar with these!! )

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the reply. I am new to this parametric modeling. I usually do fairly well if I have a good example to see how things are done and a few good instructions. I just am trying to avoid many hours of trial only to find out that I could of accomplished this much faster if I had only done this. I would love to get a copy of the COW inlet as we sometimes have to use that one in one of our projects. I work for Sedgwick County. Are you saying that you would give me a copy to work with, or are you offering to create the Type 22? I can send you the detail sheet on the inlet if you want me to. That would be great.

Thanks,

Daryl
