Hey guys. I finally went and created my first exit sign family. I'm not sure how I can get the text on the exit sign to actually be illuminated. I checked the "glow" checkbox in the materials window, but shouldn't there be some sort of candela or lumens setting for the amount I want it to glow? When I render to an image, it doesn't glow.
Can anybody take a look and see if there's anything I did wrong or missed?
Thanks!

I downloaded your exit sign but I cannot place it in my model for some reason, I am using Revit MEP 2009, do you have any idea why or what I can do.
Thank you

I would try to create the sign in a light fixture template...have the glow from the template in between translucent letters then try...
I can't download the file??

I think that your family would be better utilized if it was in a "face base" family...rather than ceiling...more flexible, especially if it is going to be used for MEP!
For the exit sign to emt light, you will need to do something different...but currently the light source is inside the solid part of the geometry...so it won't emit light....as soon as you take the fixture (not the letters) and make that material transparent/translucent, then the light fixture works....so,
You will have to most likely create a special material for the letters, and the light source would need to be moved to be outside the sign...
Hope you make it work!

I am at home, so I have only the expired demo version, but after trying my suggestion, I realized that it would be better to make the fixture hollow, and subtract the text from the fixture as well (you can't just subtract the text, but you can sketch the text our of the extrusion...and keep the light source inside the fixture...but now it will be in the "hollow" portion of the fixture...play with the material of the exit LED text (I started with Glass-Lights on and played with its settings.)
If I am able to screen capture it I will post it...but I don't have any software that allows me to paste the screen capture....but hopefully the description is enough to make you play with the material and light settings

I was able to screen capture the rendering and paste into Microsoft Paint LOL

You can still use "EXIT" signs there?
In the UK (as far as I know) and Australia we are only allowed to use the "Running Man" diffuser on new projects.

I like the "Running Man" graphic...but we don't have such restrictions here...but honestly IMO, 4 big letters for "EXIT" is clearer than a running man...

Wow, this thread is REALLy old!
I have since realized that making face hosted families is the way to go especially for MEP (due to linked architectural models). I totally ditched this family a while ago but haven't mad an exit sign since!

Whoah, didn't realise how old this thread was! Just saw the new post date.
Also, the 4 big letters saying EXIT are maybe more clear to some of us (those of us that are educated and without mental disability) but some (mentioned <--) of us may not know what the EXIT sign means.

This is a quck rendition but you can change, adjust, modify if need be. Here is how I would build an exit sign in Revit 2009. I have rendered it and the EXIT is visible. Try this out and see what yo think.
