Upgrading Revit - missing libraries

Could someone advise me on a safe way of upgrading Revit without losing all my 'user' and other libraries, as i have on two previous occasions! This is a real problem and one i am no longer confdent of avoiding without some advice on what is the proper method of upgrading the software to avoid this?

Just make sure you locate your libraries and rendering files in a location that is not a sub-directory of the revit install. That way, when you do a new install you just have to add these locations into the file locations in the settings menu.
