Not to beat a dead horse again, but I just updated a bunch of machines & found that the older (18 months to 2 years old) PCs need to have Open GL OFF in order to work reasonably well. These are IBM R52s with ATI Radeon X300 video.
With OpenGL on, they would regenerate the video with pretty much every mouse click.
Messed around with the video drivers, but nothing made any difference until I turned off OpenGL. Display Planes didn't make much difference.
Our newer machines - IBM T60s with ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 - are fine with Open GL and Overlay planes on.
