Check to see what plant season your rendering is set to. The trees will change their look according to the season.

I've set it to spring and summer and no change.

I've even changed the tree type and nothing. its worked before but today I get nothing. Now I'm going to shut everything down and restart. for some reason that seems to work.

I have this on a fairly regular basis. The only solution I know of is to close down and re-open revit. I think you will find this works.

I would be more inclined to think this has to do with the accurender assignments. Select a tree in the model, go to properties, edit, and check whether there is an accurender tree assignment set for the tree family ("plant name"). If not, there will be nothing there to render.
