Is there any way to make a wall tag, not within a schedule, that pulls the wall length information?

Thanks,

I tried to do this:

-set up a Shared Parameter called "wall length" in my project folder as a text file
(not a Project Parameter--only Shared parameters can tag objects?)
-made a multi-category tag called "wall length tag" and loaded into my project.
-tried to use a "shared parameter filter"

this is where i got stuck--I think walls are "host objects" and do not behave
like families--so you may not be able to apply the shared parameter to the wall,
so the multi-category tag won't tag the wall.

I suppose you could create a generic wall family, and then it could be tagged--but
the generic wall families are not "host" walls, etc...

anyone else find a way to do this? sure would be nice, because the host walls
show the length and area in their properties box....

cheers....

You can report a parameter value from a Family that is variable only by the predefined content of the Family Type. In other words, if you built a Curtain Wall Panel Family, for example, you could then create a tag that reports the Length of the Panel since that Length is defined as a parameter and then by the type of Panel Family itself. This can be done using a calculated value for the Length, and thus variable in the Project using basic Trigonometry and/or Algebra. You cannot do the same thing to the System Family of Walls, since the wall length is not a parameter, but a resultant value.
