I've seen it on the forum somewhere I'm sure.. but just can't find it

Can someone please remind me how you enable the earth hatch to show up in an elevation which includes a sloping toposurface.

I had a feeling it was in site settings but fiddling with that I cannot make it appear.

Many thanks.

Hey there,

The 2 ways that I use are as follows: (Depending on your modeling needs for rendering and presentations as well as your site plan presentation needs.)

1. Model your topo just enough to show what you want in section and elevation and Site Plan. Then, when you have sections and elevations, click on the call out symbol to reveal the actual blue "cut" line. This line has to be within the modeled topo area. And, don't forget to set the topo's properties to show the earth hatch pattern when Cut. Then use your crop view controls to set the depth of the cut earth.

2. Drafted fill regions.

Good luck and hope this answered your question.
There may be other methods.....
Steve

Thanks Steve - brilliant. :)

I'd almost got there with moving the elevation cut lines and setting the hatch in site settings...

I must be missing a step somewhere.

Have you checked your Site Settings dialog (see attached)?

Yes, thanks - that was the first thing I looked at.

It says -3000 on my (Metric) dialogue - I think I just had not moved my elevation markers far enough in to cut the toposurface because it all works fine now :)

'Poche' is a curious word I've not come across before - presumably from the French?

po·ché /poʊˈʃeɪ/ Pronunciation[poh-shey]

–noun the walls, columns, and other solids of a building or the like, as indicated on an architectural plan, usually in black.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Origin: < F, ptp. of pocher to make a rough sketch, poach2]

Oddly, I couldn't find it in a French dictionary; the only reference being to poche meaning pocket or bag (incidentally from which we get poached eggs due to their appearance)

Ain't language fun?

thanks Philip... never came across the term until I started with Revit...

I can't think of an equivalent UK construction term at the moment.

In fact Revit is sprinkled with US construction terms that I've not come across before.

Very educational ;)

Poche, loose translation from arch speak "something to hide the stuff we do not want to draw"
as in:
I was en charrete when I realised I had not drawn in any of the structural members. Whiping out my extra large sharpie, I poched madly until those blank areas were quite solid
