I am trying to convert part of my company over to 3D. I have come up with a nice setup however the generic lighting seems to be washing out the top view along with some side views. I could render the vports but that gets rid of my dimension lines. If I place lights in the "sky" they don't seem to affect the typical shade displays. Let me know if you have any ideas on how to get the final product to show up better.
Thanks.

Is this with "shaded" viewports?

Yeah it is the typical shaded with edges on.

Use shademode-gouraud and with variable facetres = 10 .

AFAIK, with viewport shading (as opposed to rendering), you get what you get.
But, then, it could be different in A2008.

Is there a way to change the general lighting settings in the shade mode?

SHADEDIF might make a difference to simple shading (But I don't see any difference on a quick test).
Perhaps you would do better to create your own visual style and use that.
