I have a railing I am trying to create that is pretty common for wood residential decks. Pretty simple in the field anyway.
It uses 2x4 rails attached to the sides of 4x4 posts, with 2x2 balusters attached to the sides of the 2x4 rails. Finish it off with a 2x6 cap.
I have included the posts in the baluster pattern and have set them to 'each segment end'. I then use a tip from the forums here and split the sketch line where I would like a field post at. My problem is that at a corner condition, Revit is not placing the post where I would like it. I am just now getting used to the railing tool a little bit and I'm not sure how to manipulate the position of this corner post. For now, I have placed all of my posts manually and placed the railing, with no posts between those to get it to work. I also have some areas where those posts project down past the deck line anyway, so that was fine. But I need to use this with some stair conditions etc., and am seeing some problems getting this to work. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Also, Is there a way to get a railing cap on the railing?
one more thing, I had the posts set to have the top 2x4 as it's top constraint, but the post wants to see this as the bottom of that top 2x4. These posts need to be flush with the top of the top rail. So I left that top rail as it's constraint, but had to give it a 1/16" offset to get it to get above, or at least look like it's flush. The other way I was going to attempt it was to set the top post const. to be the host and then give it a top offset the height of my rail structure. Is this the correct method?
Thanks
Josh
