I'm trying to mask a filled region. Is this possible or do I have to make a "hole" by adding to the sketch of the filled region?

Hi!
You can either use a masking region for this or you can create a hole in your filled region (a closed shape within a closed shape).

Yeah, I've tried using the masking region tool, but it isn't masking the filled region like I want it to. I tried adjusting the display order, but no change. I'm working in an RCP. Would this have anything to do with it? Maybe the view range?

I tried using a solid white filled region and basically acheived the same effect I was looking for. I know that this is the "old school" way of masking.

The new masking region is for masking 3D objects. Filled regions are of course 2D. So the new mask region falls below all drafted elements. You are correct that you can either put a hole in your mask region or use a solid white fill with display order.

Thanks for the clarification, Aaron. Always helpful.

Yes, but the masking region does work on 2d objects as well. And I can change the display order quite easily and I am working in an RCP so...I am not sure why it is not working you your case... As long as you found a way to do what you need though, that is all that matters.

So, you can mask 2D object, but have you had success masking a filled region?

Yes. It absolutely works on my end.

I am on Build: Revit Architecture 2008 - 20070607_1700.

I am not sure if that will make any difference. There where some updates to the masking region for this build but they related more to masking regions in tag families.

Hi Teresa,
yes, it appears the new build (yours) solves a glitch where masking regions drafted into a family would not mask anything once you place them in a project.

However, I was hoping that masking regions (used straight or within an annotation family) would mask anything, underneath them, but I cannot mask a label and there seem to be no draw-order available for annotation and or masking regions...

Can you mask a label using the new masking regions? For example, can you mask portions of a view title, in a sheet?

thank you

regards

Gio

Best regards,Was there an update or service pack to the 2008 release?

Hi!
Alas, you cannot use the masking region in a sheet view. You can make annotation mask what is behind it by setting it to opaque in the family editor.

In regards to the second question, you may download the latest build from the Autodesk website...
