Hello,
can anybody tell me, why a "black line" is crossing the attached picture?
I assume, it has something to do with the horizon, but even if I set the horizon up or down,
the black line stays there.

Can you post the scene? If the model is proprietary, perhaps you can remove it so we can see the scene.

Or at least more details aboutthe scene. What render engine? How did you do the background?

I am using the Mental Ray Render, with 3D Max 9.
I dragged the mr pysical sky map from the environmental and effects panel into my material editor as a instance copy.
Then, to get the sun as a glowing disk, I rendered the scene. It might has something to do with the mr physical sky map, which is not right.

Is there actual geometry you're attaching the sky to, or just setting it up through the environment panel? It looks as though the sky is attached to the inside of a cylindrical object... Does the black line maintain it's position relative to the frame if you pan the camera down?

I started from scratch again and found the mistake!
There is a button to tick in the Modifier List - see attached.
The skylight should be not active. Then the black line disappears.
