View Full Version : Keynote Block, can't sort by type?

When I go to New > Note Block to create a schedule of keynote symbols, I create the schedule with the fields Type, Keynote Number, and Description. The Keynote Number is what shows on the actual placed keynote, while Type of course shows in the drop-down box at the upper left of the screen.

Now when I go to the Filter tab of the Note Block properties, it only allows me to filter by Keynote Number or Description, and not by Type. This is frustrating as I might want different sets of Keynotes to all be numbered 1, 2, 3, etc. (like floor plan keynotes on floor plan sheets, roof notes on the roof plan sheet). But as it is, I have to use different numbering like R1, R2, R3 for roof notes, and D1, D2, D3 for demolition notes, etc.

Anybody know how to get the Type field available as a filter option?

use different families for each of your "groups" of keynotes. just take one, edit the family and saveas a different family name such as "plankeynotes", "roofKeyNotes" etc...

now you when you create a note block, you get to pick which family you schedule...

Well yeah that's one way to do it, but I was hoping to be able to use just one family for everything, since they all look the same anyway, rather than cluttering my library with numerous different keynote family types.

We have a shared parameter in our keynote called "view" which you can then use in a filter on your noteblock.

You have to fill in the "view" (ie roof details, wall details) parameter manually on your keynotes but it still works great.

I think in your case you'll have to make the number an instance parameter so you can have more than one "1" as it were. We don't do it this way because of the risk of having two descriptions for the one number screwing up your noteblock. I personally like the differentiation of "R1, D1) etc.

Cheers,
Dean.

Well I just found out that they Keynote family loaded in our template was out of date  It has since been modified to include a "Note Type" type parameter field, which can be sorted and hidden in the schedule. So I can just fill in that Type field with Equipment, Plan, etc. and sort by that, and I only need one Keynote family loaded in the project. :)

Patrick - looks like you had this problem with RAC 2008. I am trying to do the same thing in RAC 2010. You STILL cannot filter or sort by type in a Note Block Schedule. I agree with you - I dont want a Sheet Note Family for each type. We have Demo, New Construction, Power & Signal, Equipment, & Finish Plans. I want to place a sheet note on each of these and as I create additional #'s, they build the schedule for the type I am using. Have you found any way around this in the past 2.5 years? I tried your method of creating an additonal type field - it works, but you have to make sure you start off with that type field filled in for each. I also wanted to merge 2 text fields but that doesnt work either! GRRRRRRRRR - who said this was a relational database?? Doesnt act like anyone of the ones I've worked with. Thanks.

Nope, we just have our template set up with our Keynote family loaded, and then there are 3 types defined: Floor Plan 1, Demolition 1, and RCP 1. The Floor Plan 1 keynote has Floor Plan in the Note Type Field, and the numeral 1 in the Keynote number field.

Our template also already has 3 note schedules set up, each one filtering by Note Type for each respective type, and the Note Type field hidden in each schedule.

It has worked fine since I last posted in this thread. If you need to make another type, just duplicate your #1 for any particular type and name it something else with a 1 on the end. As you duplicate the keynote symbol each time to make a new one, Revit will automatically change the number suffix to the next higher number. Just remember to change the Keynote Number field to the next highest number, as well.

Thanks! I added a field called Type Key. I then created the 6 different sheet types and filled in both the Sheet Note (N.1, D.1, C.1......) and the type key (N,D,C.........) It works as the type key gets placed the type key is automatically filled in!! As you place the notes, you can edit the new number and it builds the schedule. I have all 6 schedules with a filter on Type Key. I was concerned that the production staff would have to edit the type key as well. I would love to see Keynote block filter by sheet the same way that the keynote schedule does. thanks for the help.
