railroad tracks?

Just got a question from someone about how to show railroad tracks on a site plan. I had never had to do it and wasn't really sure how I would go about it. Anyone here have some ideas?

Line based Generic Model or a Line based detail component... Depending on your choice of modeled vs drafted... Allthough if it turns youll have to have a separate instance created for that, which could be a pain...

Phil Read had a great example of this method in one of the AU classes - 2006, BD41-3 - Advanced Autodesk Building Techniques.

This is basic, just use the copy tools in Revit.
Design the Railroad cut/profile (I´m Norwegian/Nederlansk) then lay it out in the path you need.

If this not work I "yap" Autodesk even more.

It´s even more complicated, but can be done.

Railings do work for this, I did one once like that for a transit project.

However BE CAREFUL. Don't make your models too detailed. The railing tool is an all-to-easy way to add a whole lot to a model very quickly.

When I did this my first try had ties, brackets, and more, hooked to the rails. It even had a third rail for power with a shrowd and stuff. And then after drawing a few lengths of track the project really started to bog, for I'd added probably several thousand little tiny solids into my project without thinking about it, for they were all properly spacing themselves out like I told them to...

So just keep it really simple and it can work fine.
