Spilt Face Problem

hi,
How to use spilt face command for structural column without using edit family option.
I want to spilt face in elevation.It is possible in edit family option but at every level every time it is quite tedious so is there any solution for this? I am using Structural-Rectangular Concrete Column.

It is curious that you can use split face on a non-structural column without editing the family but it only works on a structural column by editing the family.

Revit Help recommends that for many columns you edit the family of the column, use split face and save the family before placing the columns - or presumably you could create this amended family and swap out all your existing columns for the new ones just by changing their type?
