Hi all,

I've installed Revit Architecture 2008 on my computer. When opening it for the first time, it opens perfectly and everything works well. BUT after restarting the computer Revit does'nt open at all. No error messages, just does nothing when trying to open it.

My computer specs:
Intel Pentium 4, 3,0 GHz with HT, 1 GB RAM, NVidea GeForce 6600 128 bit 256 MB card.

I've been told that it is the NVidia card, but why does it open the first time?

PLEASE HELP URGENTLY

Assuming you are using Windows XP:
Go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest drivers. Extract them to to c:\nvidia
Right click on my computer on the desktop, click manage, go to device manager, expand Display adapters, right click on the graphics card and choose uninstall and then reboot the PC. When you reboot, it will ask you for the driver location, go to c:\nvidia and tell it to use that. Should work now....

hi

can you pull up the task bar when you first boot and run revit? take a screenshot of the various processes running or programs running.

after you restart, take a screenshot of the task manager again and see if you already have an instance of Revit running?. compare the two screenshots and let update us if there is some difference?

are you running windows XP with SP2?

i dont know if this could help, but noting the difference in the task manager as above could help us in the right direction!
all the best

Are you trying to open Revit from a desktop icon or from Windows Explorer? If one, try the other.

Hi Winn,

The task manager shows that I DON'T have another instance of Revit running after the restart. In fact it is completely empty. (will take screenshots tonight, the computer is at home)

Yes, I'm using XP with SP2.

I've also downloaded the latest build of Revit 2008, but this made no difference. Whether you pick the icon on your desktop or start it from the Program Group doesn't matter either, still does'nt work.

I've installed revit on a different machine and there it works perfectly.

Please help!!

Winn,

Did that last night 3 times. Still works untill you restart the machine, then gone. I've updated the drivers for the NVidia card also.

Revit is part of the Series. The AutoCad 2008 works without a hitch.

Quick question, what anti-virus program, firewall and spyware programs are you using? It could simply be one of these programs not allowing you to open the program. Another thing got to your My Computer icon and right click on it. Go to Properties>Advanced> Performance Settings> Advanced. Go see what your virtual memory has been set too. Try setting it to Custom Initial Size 2046 Maximum Size 4092. If it is already set to that then it or doesn't want to work try setting it to system managed.

Once you have tried those things give me a shout.

Hi Elmo,

I'm using Norton Anti-Virus and no Firewall or Spyware as the computer does'nt connect to the net. I tried changing the virtual memory from the Custom sizes to system managed, but still nothing.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Try disabling Norton and then opening the program. If it opens then we know what the problem is. If not then we need to consider other options.

If that doesn't work try doing the 3 gb switch. It is fully explained on this link.

Autodesk 3GB Switch (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=8018966&linkID=9243099)

look at this link:

This is a know issue and Autodesk has not fixed this!

There is a way to get it to work:

You can open task manager and click on "new task" then just search for the icon on the desktop and hit "open"

This works for the 2 computers here that we have not replaced yet.

Yeah they still can't reproduce the problem in-house, we have about 10 machines that have the problem, I wouldn't expect a fix anytime in the near future :(

Hey there,
I had the exact same problem. Autodesk could not help after an hour trying and telling me that this was a know issue for a few other users.....so I tried a few things and found that if you disable the "compatible with: " window in the setup....it fires right up on my machine.

It worked for me.
Good luck!

Same problem with RAC 2008, only works directly after install. Then nothing. Disabled antivirus (AVG). Re-installed both RAC & AC still nothing, re-installed RAC & AC & SP1, still nothing. Re-installed only Revit, still nothing.

Got the newest drivers for all my hardware including my Quadro card. Can't see what elese I can do.

There are two options to fix this, first is to save this as a .reg file and run it

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers]
"C:\\WINDOWS\\explorer.exe"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\NoExecuteState]
"LastNoExecuteRadioButtonState"=-

Second option is to disable Data Execution Prevention altogether

edit your boot.ini and change /noexecute=optin to /noexecute=AlwaysOff

We had the same problem so I did some more looking and finally found another fix. It's the RWUXThemeSU80.dll file. There's one for RAC 2009 at this link.

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=11245327&linkID=9243099 (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=11245327&linkID=9243099)

We had the problem on 5 machines and this seemed to clear it right up. We also did the fix...

[size=3]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers]
"C:\\WINDOWS\\explorer.exe"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\NoExecuteState]
"LastNoExecuteRadioButtonState"=-

Second option is to disable Data Execution Prevention altogether

edit your boot.ini and change /noexecute=optin to /noexecute=AlwaysOff

in conjunction with the RWUXThemeSU80.dll file and all seems to be working smoothly now.

Hope this helps... Good Luck!
