View Full Version : Masking Section Tag?

Is there a way to mast the objects in the drawing behind a Section Tag? If I go into the tag and put a circular mask on it, the line separating the section number and sheet number disappears.

I know I can make the text within the tag opaque but the company I'm doing this work for wants everything within the whole circle masked.

You should be able to move the masking region to the background, and have the text in the foreground in front of the masking region. (Can't swear to this without actually testing it out).

Thanks for the reply Robert.

That would be a great suggestion, but I can't find any option with Masking Regions that allow me to move it to the foreground or background.

Try this simple family.... It was easy to make, but I didn't want to start a new project, replace, etc.....

Thanks for the effort but that has the same affect that applying a masking region had, the line dividing the circle disappears.

Create two masked regions for each half of the circle. Sketck lines in masking regions or filled regions can be part of a proper subcategory, and not simply an invisible line. Use the sketch lines to define the linework you're looking for.

This is getting close now.....

I believe the only problem I'm having is the masking region doesn't rotate with the section. Again, there doesn't appear to have an option to rotate the masking region with the section. I did go into the Family Category and Parameters dialog box and under the Section Mark I checked the 'rotate with object' but that didn't seem to rotate the mask.

Dang!

I don't know if attempting to align lock the masking region to the reference plane would help or not in this case. I hate it when they do these fancy little tricks that we don't have direct access to, or any way to interact with the behavior(s).

Bummer,,,,,,,,,
I tried the align and locking of the masks to the section line but it still didn't rotate it. I really had hopes with the two separate masks. Unless you have any other suggestions I guess my only option is to put a mask on the drawing behind the section tag and hope the section tag doesn't move. I really appreciate your help

The center line has something hardcoded into it. If you draw a new line, it will rotate but if you copy and paste the center line provided it will not rotate. If you lock the existing line to the center reference plane, it will still not rotate, as if the hardcoded behavior is a master override.

The only solution that that I can think of that would work is to put two semi-circle masks and add a visibility parameter to it...then copy and rotate 90 degrees and add a separate visibility parameter...then just have two different sections..one for Horiz and one for Vertical....defeats the purpose, I know.

At least the section tag can be opaque an look OK in one orientation. The detail bubbles and section markers are transparent in all cases, showing brick patterns, etc. right through them.

Sad that after 10 major releases, simple 2D drafting conventions can't be achieved. Is it that user feedback is pressing for fancier 3D modeling features?

Dang... I tried all the things listed in this thread and I was hoping there would be some magical solution... :(

I'm assuming this still doesnt work? Would be nice.:?

Theres a hack, to do it with a very small text size, and a long row of "____" characters. That will put the line across the center of the head, at which point you can use a masking region in the detail head. Whether or not its worth it.....

I've attached a copy of my hack. Its the masked circle with _____ lines in text over it. I'd love a better solution is someone has one.
